Free Session – Self-publishing big picture

Session 1 – tax and legal considerations

  • Tax implications in Australia (20 mins): How to set this up for publishing on Amazon and other US-based companies. Royalties, direct sales, consignments.
  • Copyright (20 mins): what copyright means to you as a self-publisher. Includes copyright, licensing and working with copyright holders, getting paid for your copyright material.
  • Legal deposit (20 mins): deposit into the National Library of Australia and other organisations.

Session 2 – Scrivener for Self-Publishing

  • File formats (30 mins): Understand the difference between e-book and print. What considerations do you need to find what is best for you. How the files are different for each platform.
  • Format (30 mins): Using Scrivener to format your manuscript ready for publishing. Walk through the templates and show how to organise your information for easy formatting.

Session 3 – self-publishing platforms

  • Publish (40 mins): Setting up the platforms for upload – Amazon and other platforms, including caveats, minimum thresholds, bank account details, and how to upload.
  • Promotion (20 mins): Online presence, consignments, events.
